In West Africa, women are increasingly being seen as more vulnerable than men to the impacts of climate change. They are principally responsible for producing food, collecting water for their households and collecting fuel for cooking. These tasks are increasingly becoming more difficult for women due to increased in the frequency of occurence of extreme climate-driven events such as floods, droughts and severe weather. Hence, women have a crucial role in climate change adaptation and mitigation because of their knowledge and understanding of what is needed to adapt to changing environmental conditions and to come up with practical solutions. The seminar seeks to inform the audience of on-going efforts to tackle the menace of climate change by gaining a better understanding of the interactions among specific components of the climate system.
