The PollEN project, conducted under Trans-National Access grant no. 7-49 supported by ATMO-ACCESS, is taking place on the French island of La Réunion in the Indian Ocean, with a collaboration of OSU-R (Observatory of Science of the Universe of La Réunion, Université de La Réunion, CNRS, IRD, and Météo-France). The PollEN project aims to characterize pollen particles using a unique combination of remote and in-situ measurements to examine the pollen type and abundance near the surface and within the atmospheric boundary layer. To do so, in-situ (Hirst-type spore trap) and remote (polarization high-power lidar) measurements are conducted. This TNA project can provide insights into the timing and concentration of pollen grains in Reunion and discuss the potential influence of weather conditions on pollen distribution. The findings will contribute to the understanding of pollen as a part of bioaerosol and enhance pollen forecasting for allergy sufferers living in la Réunion.
