RI-URBANS celebrates its 2nd Science Meeting held on October 18-19, 2023 at the Co-Creation Center Green Village in Delft, The Netherlands. RS-Lab team members Anetta Drzeniecka-Osiadacz, Łucja Janicka, Zuzanna Rykowska, Dominika Szczepanik, Patryk Poczta, and Emeka Ugboma participate actively in the project realization under the lead of Iwona Stachlewska. Within the RI-URBANS project, 5 pilots for ACTRIS supersites located in the largest cities in Europe are developed. The progress on each site was given, followed by a discussion of how ACTRIS/RI-URBANS might support the implementation of the new Air Quality Directive.

The event is related to the mid-term project meeting, thus it is focused on the major topics of the project. At first, the outputs of the 1st reporting period evaluation were presented to the participants. Afterward, Pan-European reports on advanced air quality parameters were introduced. Open access to compiled data and data flow towards ACTRIS further measurements, including new service tools for 3D measurements were also discussed. Finally, the results of the analysis of health outcomes, city mapping, citizen involvement, pollution, and hotspots as well as the first results on emission inventories and modeling were provided. At the same time, a major goal of the 2nd Science Meeting, which is to involve air-quality policy stakeholders in the interpretations and discussions of the project results will be addressed.

The progress of the so-called upscaling actions was given. This is understood as a way to upgrade and include other sites in an urban environment to the list of recommended supersites in view of the aforementioned Directive. Here the case study of upscaling for Warsaw, Poland plays a major role. The case was presented by Prof. Iwona Stachlewska. The presentation included results for the Warsaw case supersite that combines observations of RS-Lab and RT-Lab at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw (UW) and the observational site of the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). Moreover in prezentation suggestions for the other potential sites to be upscaled in Poland were given, e.g. Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia of the Institute of Environmental Protection (IPIŚ-PAN), Wrocław of the University of Wrocław (UWR), or Kraków of the AGH University of Science and Technology.
