Next Monday, on the 15th of November at 4.30 pm in room 0.03 there will be the next Jerzy Pniewski and Leopold Infeld Colloquim of the Faculty of Physics. Our guest will be professor Marek Hołyński from The Polish Information Processing Society who will give a lecture:
"How physicists contributed to the development of computer science in Poland".
In recent decades, we have seen a very rapid development of information and communication technologies. When we ask ourselves about the sources of this development, we often think of the contemporary global technological giants, which are well-recognized thanks to their consistently built position in the commercial domain. The seminar will bring us closer to the beginnings of the Internet in Poland, which was purely scientific, and were made possible thanks to the commitment and ingenuity of scientists from the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw.
Join us for coffee, cakes and informal discussions from 4 pm.
With best regards,

Polish computer science is over 70 years old. Physicists contributed significantly to its creation and development. This lecture presents the history of early computing in Poland since its inception at the Warsaw University's Faculty of Physics, first computers and following the expansion of the Internet with particular emphasis on the role that representatives of physical sciences played in these activities.
