Cookies Policy

The following document describes the rules of storing and accessing information on the User's devices via cookies used on the website of the Institute of Geophysics, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw.

I. Definitions

Administrator - the Institute of Geophysics of the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw, based in Warsaw at 5 Pasteur Street, 02-093 Warsaw.

Cookies – IT data, in particular, small text files saved and stored on devices through which the User accesses the Website.

Administrator's Cookies - cookies placed by the Administrator, related to the electronic services delivered by the Administrator through the Website.

Website - a website or application under which the Administrator runs an Internet service, operating in the domain igf.fuw.edu.pl.

Device - an electronic device through which the User gains access to the Website.

User - an entity for the benefit of which, in accordance with the legal regulations, electronic services may be provided or with whom an Agreement for the delivery of services by electronic means may be concluded.

II. Types of cookies

Cookies used by the Administrator are safe for the User Device. It is not possible for viruses or other unwanted software or malware to get via cookies into the User’s Device. Cookies files allow to identify the software used by the User and to customize the Website for each individual User. Cookies usually contain the name of the domain they come from, the time they are stored on the Device and their assigned value.

The Administrator uses two types of cookies:

Session cookies: they are stored on the User's Device and remain there until the session of a given browser ends. The stored information is then permanently deleted from the Device memory. The mechanism of session cookies does not allow collecting any personal data or any confidential information from the User's Device.

Persistent cookies: these are stored on the User's Device and remain there until they are deleted. Ending the session of a given browser or switching off the Device does not cause their deletion from the User's Device. The mechanism of persistent cookies does not allow collecting any personal data or any confidential information from the User Device.

The User has the possibility to restrict or disable the access of cookies to his Device. In case of using this option, the use of the Website will be possible, except for functions that require cookies.

III. Purposes of the use of cookies

Authentication of the User on the Website and ensuring a User session on the Website:

- maintaining a session (after logging in), thanks to which a User does not have to re-enter login and password on each subpage of the Service;

- enhancing configuration of selected functions of the Service, enabling in particular verification of the authenticity of a browser session;

- optimisation and increase of efficiency of services provided by the Administrator.

IV. Storage and access by cookies

The User may, independently and at any time, change the settings of cookies, specifying the conditions for their storage and access to the User's Device. The User can change the settings of cookies through the Internet browser settings or through the configuration of the Website. It is possible to automatically block cookies in the web browser. However, restricting the use of cookies may affect some functionality of the Website. The User may delete cookies at any time in the Internet browser settings.
