This engineering thesis is devoted to the generation of the third harmonic of light in ENZ media, in which values of the real part of the permittivity for specific wavelengths of radiation are close to zero.The thesis aims to discuss the phenomena and mechanisms associated with the occurrence of non-linear effects in ENZ materials and metamaterials, and to experimentally verify the generation of the third harmonic of light in this type of media. The experimental part of the thesis was performed using an in-house developed optical system for generating and measuring higher harmonics of light. The key element of the setup was a set of optical filters designed and manufactured by the author herself. In addition, a part of the optical characterization was made with an ellipsometer. The sample used in the experiment was an indium tin oxide (ITO) nanolayer that had an ENZ point in the near-infrared range.
In the research work process, the amplification of the signal of the third harmonic of light near the ENZ point and the angular dependence of this process was measured. The obtained results were related to theoretical predictions, and possible causes of discrepancies were indicated.
