on-line, ZOOM

The UW's Center for Systemic Risk Analysis cordially invites you to a seminar with Dr. Jun-Ichi Yano of the Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques, Météo-France in Toulouse, on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 7:30 pm.

Dr. Jun-Ichi Yano's work earned him a doctorate in meteorology from Kyoto University in Japan. He has held research internships at MIT and NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research) in the United States, the University of Hamburg in Germany, and Monash University in Australia, among others.

The speaker aims to reflect philosophically on science, starting from Ludwig Wittgenstein's concept of "Gestalt" ("Philosophische Untersuchungen") and making it a keyword.

A specific topic of discussion will be the organization of cloud convection observed in the atmosphere on a planetary scale, with particular emphasis on the phenomenon known as the Madden-Julian oscillation.
