The FLUMIRA, developed as part of my PhD project, advances the exploration and application of fluorescence techniques in aerosol measurements using the ESA Mobile Raman Lidar (EMORAL). The integration of a broadband fluorescence detection channel (centered at 470 nm with a 100 nm bandwidth) into EMORAL significantly expands its aerosol characterization capabilities. Current work has demonstrated: (i) the system’s capability to simultaneously capture fluorescence signals alongside water vapor detection; (ii) the enhancement of data products through the synergy of fluorescence with Mie, Raman, and polarization-sensitive measurements; and (iii) that the inclusion of fluorescence data provides distinct and complementary insights, significantly advancing aerosol classification and enabling the differentiation of biological aerosols.

Additionally, EMORAL’s mobile and robust design enables rapid deployment (~1–2 hours for setup and pack-up) and efficient data collection in diverse environments, including coastal zones, mountainous regions, rural landscapes, and peatlands.

In this seminar, I will highlight EMORAL’s mobility and the synergistic capabilities of the Fluorescence–Mie–Raman Lidar approach in revealing aerosol characteristics across different seasons and cities. The presented observations were selected from EMORAL field campaigns conducted between September 2022 and August 2025.
