On June 11, 2025, the next edition of the Community Photonics Seminars will be held, organized by the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw in cooperation with the polish chapter of the IEEE Photonics Society (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and the Polish Technological Platform on Photonics (PPTF). The event is addressed to researchers, students, and representatives of the industry. During the seminar, attendees will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the latest developments in the field of photonics. The guest of the seminar will be Colonel Professor Norbert Pałka, DSc, from the Military University of Technology, who will deliver a lecture entitled:
“Terahertz Radiation – from Astronomy and Spectroscopy to Non-Destructive Testing and Telecommunications.”

The seminars, organized by the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw in collaboration with the Polish Chapter of the IEEE Photonics Society and the Polish Technological Platform on Photonics (PPTF), are intended for researchers, students, and representatives of the industrial sector. The events will be held on a regular basis, once a month on Wednesdays. Each seminar will last approximately 1.5 hours, during which participants will become acquainted with the latest advancements in photonics, presented by experts specializing in specific research areas. Each meeting will include a keynote lecture delivered by a distinguished specialist in the field of photonics (45 minutes). Following the lecture, a networking session (30 minutes) will be held, providing participants with an opportunity to interact and exchange ideas in an informal setting over pizza.

The seminar will take place on June 11, 2025, at 3:15 PM, in Room B 0.14 at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw. The guest of the seminar will be Colonel Professor Norbert Pałka, DSc, from the Military University of Technology, who will deliver a lecture entitled:
“Terahertz Radiation – from Astronomy and Spectroscopy to Non-Destructive Testing and Telecommunications.”

Colonel Professor Norbert Pałka, DSc has been affiliated with the Military University of Technology since 1999. His scientific activity focuses on technologies related to national and civil security – in particular, terahertz spectroscopy and imaging, fiber-optic sensing, and biometric systems. Since 2008, he has concentrated on research concerning the terahertz region of the electromagnetic spectrum, which – due to its unique properties – offers novel possibilities in threat detection and security enhancement. Over the course of his career, he has conducted approximately 30 scientific research projects focused on terahertz technology and advanced security systems.
