The tropics are the engine of the atmospheric general circulation, and their response to warming helps set the Earth’s climate sensitivity. In this talk, I will show several examples of how our group tries to better understand the manifold interactions between tropical clouds, the humidity distribution and their effects on the energy budget. Emphasis will be put on the relationship between the organization and precipitation of trade wind convection as well as on microphysical controls on tropical climate.
