The Jerzy Pniewski and Leopold Infeld Colloquium of the Faculty of Physics, the last one this semester, will be held in room 0.06 on Monday, June 9, at 11:00 AM.

The lecture entitled:

"Not only greenhouse gases. Why the Earth is already 1.5 C warmer than at the end of XIX century?"

will be delivered by:

Prof. dr hab. Szymon Malinowski
University of Warsaw, Faculty of Physics, Institute of Geophysics

Phenomena resulting from a warming climate are increasingly affecting our lives. The purpose of the lecture is to present the physics that is responsible for the observed climate changes. Particular attention will be paid to the processes of cloud formation and the role that clouds play.

The last two years have been breaking all climate records. In the background there is a rapid growth of energy imbalance of our planet documented despite only moderate increases in anthropocentric greenhouse gas emissions. To what extent is it a surprise?  Why understanding clouds and aerosols is a top priority of climate science now?

In the presentation I will cover these recent breathtaking developments from the perspective of basic physics.

The lecture will be held in English.

Before the Colloquium, from 10.30 AM, please join us for informal discussions over coffee and cakes in the lobby outside room 0.06.

With best regards,
Barbara Badełek
Jan Chwedeńczuk
