In the incoming Journal Club (6th Dec, 3 PM) we have the following agenda:

1. Pablo Ortiz Amezcua will present a study by

Wood, C.R. et al.
Wind observations above an urban river using a new lidar technique, scintillometry, and anemometry. Science of The Total Environment, 442, 527-533 (2013).

2. As on this day Santa Claus is coming (!), everyone is kindly invited to attend, as the meeting will be enriched with a small treat! If anyone would be willing and able to bring something from their own side, I warmly encourage them to do so.

I encourage you to glance over the paper before the meeting! See you on Tuesday!

Kind regards
Grzegorz Florczyk

The Journal Club is a popular type of biweekly discussion meeting. Willing participants present new research/publications/analyses that are interesting from their point of view. A short presentation is followed by a discussion, during which one can express opinions, and comments, ask questions, etc. After the discussion, the meeting ends or another person presents the publication.

What is the purpose of the Journal Club? There are a couple of them:

To become more aware of what our colleagues' scientific interests are.
To become better acquainted with the latest developments in our field.
To boost motivation to keep up to date with current literature (mainly for early-stage academics).
