ESA Mobile Raman Lidar (EMORAL) was built in collaboration with RS-Lab with Raymetrics SA (Greece), LMU-MIM (Germany) and ESA-ESTEC. Lidar comprises a Nd:YAG laser head (SpitLight 400, InnoLas, Germany), the reflector (300 mm diameter Cassegrain telescope with adjustable field of view of 2-3.6 mrad), and fast high-resolution transient recorders (TR40-160, 16 bits, Licel, Germany) placed into a van car. The structure of the system ensures full operability in temperature conditions distinctive for Europe. Three laser beams are emitted simultaneously, collinearly, and vertically into the atmosphere with the repetition rate of 10 Hz (the pulse length of 5-7 ns) at 1064, 532, and 355 nm with a pulse energy of 112, 103, and 128 mJ, respectively. Collected backwards scattered radiation is detected at 8 channels: 3 elastic (1064,532,355 nm), 3 vibrational Raman (607,387 nm for N2 molecules and 408 nm for H2O particles) and 2 elastic depolarizing channels (532,355 nm) and simultaneously recorded with an analogue and photon-counting mode (except for 1064 nm - only analogue). Raw spatial resolution is 3.75 m and the height of the full overlap is circa 300 m a.g.l.
