The work primarily contains a study of the results of our own research on the occurrence of tear film disorders depending on the patient's age group. It discusses the types and structure of the tear film as well as the mechanism of its production. It describes disorders and symptoms of tear film dysfunction as well as methods of treating this disease. Due to the nature of the work, a significant part of it focuses on discussing the methods of testing tear film disorders, both those used in our own studies and those that were not used in them. As a reference to existing studies in this area, the epidemiological report TFOS DEWS II was discussed.

The own studies presented in this work were conducted on a representative group of patients, assigned to subgroups based on age and sex. They were conducted using three research methods - TBUT with fluorescein, the Schirmer test and the OSDI questionnaire. The research results are presented using an analysis conducted using Statistica 13 and Microsoft Office Excel.
The research results confirmed that the increase in the occurrence of symptoms of dry eye syndrome, i.e. tear film disorders, increases with age, but at the same time one cannot underestimate the risk associated with the exposure of young people to environmental factors such as long-term use of computers, smartphones or staying in artificial light.
