The purpose of the study is to examine the quality of life of individuals diagnosed with eye diseases, focusing on three common conditions: cataracts, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). An innovative model for assessing quality of life, which takes into account both objective and subjective aspects has been presented. The tools that are used in contemporary medicine to evaluate health-related quality of life are discussed. The study involved 52 patients from the Optimum Ophthalmic Center in Warsaw. The NEI VFQ-25 questionnaire, which assesses daily functioning and subjective experiences of individuals with eye diseases, was used to measure quality of life. The research group consisted of individuals over 60 years old. The analysis of the questionnaire results showed that the highest quality of life is experienced by individuals suffering from glaucoma, while the lowest is experienced by those with age-related macular degeneration. Eye diseases cause difficulties in driving, fulfilling life roles, and performing tasks that require close vision. They have the least impact on color vision with its minor reduction. The research confirms the thesis that eye diseases negatively affect the quality of life of elderly individuals, hindering daily functioning and lowering their mental state.
