Analysis and Forecast of Intense Hydrometeorological Phenomena in the East of Northeast Brazil

Funding institution:
Realization period:
March 1, 2014 - March 1, 2019

This proposal seeks to provide greater integration between the postgraduate programs of the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL) and the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) in addition to offering more opportunities for postgraduate students, also allowing them to have a holistic view of the knowledge produced by universities. To this we can add the greater offer of opportunities for young undergraduate students, as they will be able to have more access to a very stimulating scientific initiation from the first moments of graduation, improving academic performance and reducing dropout rates from courses offered by departments. of Meteorology that makes up the Academic Unit of Atmospheric Sciences (UACA) and the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences (ICA), as well as the Department of Informatics (DI) of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). Strengthen interinstitutional cooperation for the analysis and forecast of intense hydrometeorological phenomena for the east coast of Northeast Brazil. Predicting intense phenomena is a problem of location, timing and intensity. This demands a numerical prediction system with high spatial resolution, associated with monitoring using satellites and meteorological radar. This teaching and research project is organized together and the specific lines that the project addresses are: Development of products derived from information from environmental satellites, meteorological radars or other indirect atmospheric monitoring systems.
