Relationship between Atmospheric Discharges and Urbanization
dr Rayonil Gomes Carneiro | Investigator |
The consequences of climate change for urban areas will depend on several factors, including the vulnerability and resilience of populations. Therefore, situations of vulnerability to climate change, mainly due to the increase in the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events, could become very serious, especially for low-income population groups. In this context, it is essential that there is an effort to develop methodologies and indicators for identifying and characterizing areas of greatest risk. With this, it is proposed to use data on atmospheric discharges, which are directly related to the occurrence of extreme events, to create specific indicators in order to evaluate trends in the severity of atmospheric events in urban areas, which are notably regions significantly affected by the action of the man about the environment.
