DPh Maciej Sokołowski winner of the competition "Masters of Optics 2016"
PhD thesis by Maciej Sokołowski from the Department of Information Optics of the Institute of Geophysics, entitled "Intraocular Multifocal Diffraction-Diffraction Lenses with a High Depth of Diffraction Relief", took first place in the "Masters of Optics" competition for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of optometry, A highly advanced lens design implanted with patients who have been removed from the natural lens is not discolored by the formation of cataracts. The proposed lens model enables sharp vision at all distances greater than 0.3 m, despite the fact that the implanted eye is deprived of the ability to accomodate.
The organizer of this annual competition is the Polish branch of Essilor, a global leader in the production of spectacle lenses and optical equipment. The prize for the winner is sponsored by Essilor to go to next year's largest international optical fairs MIDO 2017 in Milan.
Mateusz Waligóra from the Faculty of Physics, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, "Setting standards for the King-Devick test in children aged 7-15 years" was awarded for the best master's thesis.
