The candidates have to conform to the conditions stated in art. 113 of Higher Education Law dated 20.07.2018 (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland 2022, item 574).

We seek a candidate for assistant researcher to join the Institute of Geophysics, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw and project entitled Importance of long range transport of BIOmass burning emissions to local Smog events in Urban Environments BIOSURE, nr 2020/38/L/ST10/00480.

The period of the contract is up to 7 months. The requirements, necessary conditions required from applicants are:

  1. Master degree (M.Sc.) in science;
  2. Knowledge of methods for derivation of vertically-resolved aerosol optical and microphysical properties in the atmosphere;
  3. Understanding of working principle and technology of PollyXT and EMORAL lidars;
  4. Proven experience in use of Single Calculus Chain retrieval of lidar data;
  5. Experience with analysis of remote sensing data products (lidar, photometer), in-situ data (aethalometer, nephelometer) and chemical analyses of aerosol samples;
  6. Knowledge of MATLAB computing environment;
  7. Proven experience in publication writing;
  8. Fluency in written and spoken English;

Additional information:

  • this position is dedicated to a person beginning the scientific career, who obtained master degree not earlier than 5 years before the year of employment in this project;
  • during the period of receiving remuneration for this position the employee will not receive any other remuneration in any form from the NCN resources;
  • during the period of drawing the salary, the employee will not draw other remuneration under contract of employment with any employer;
  • the employee is expected to lead one of the work packages of the project;
  • the employee is expected to participate in field campaigns (~4 weeks during wintertime in Vilnius, Lithuania);

Description of expected tasks:

  1. Managing the Research Task "WP5: Determination of vertical optical properties characterizing stations in Vilnius and Warsaw";
  2. Determination of optical properties from lidar measurements (PollyXT and EMORAL) using the Single Calculus Chain software and evaluation of the quality of measurement data;
  3. Analysis of optical and microphysical properties of aerosols measured in Vilnius and Warsaw
  4. Study of the relationship between the microphysical and optical properties of atmospheric aerosols obtained from lidar, photometric and in situ data;
  5. Participation in field measurement campaigns (4 weeks in winter in Vilnius, Lithuania);
  6. Preparing and publishing the results of work in scientific journals.

The decision will be taken no later than November 11th, 2022 by the commission appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Physics, based on the critical evaluation of submitted documents and references/opinions. The candidates may be asked for a qualification interview with the commission, what will be communicated to them via e-mail.

The candidates will be informed individually about the results of selection procedure by an e-mail.

The competition is the first stage of the employment procedure as an academic teacher, and its positive outcome is the basis for further proceedings.
