With regret we inform you

With regret we inform you that on May 17th, we suddenly lost Professor Marek Grad.

He was an exceptional geophysicist, who studied the Earth's crust and mantle. He took part in deep seismic sounding experiments in Poland, Finland, West Antarctica, Spitsbergen and throughout Europe. Among other outstanding achievements in this field, we owe to him the first digital, high-resolution map of the Moho depth for the whole European plate.

Professor Marek Grad was a Corresponding Member of the Polish Academy of Science, a Member of the Warsaw Scientific Society and Foreign Member of the Finnish Academy of Sciences. In the years 1991-2002, he was a director of the Institute of Geophysics at the Faculty of Physics; between 2012-2014 he held the office of a dean of the III Department of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

He was an incredibly dedicated teacher, academic, scientist and friend, whom we will miss greatly.

A memorial service in his honour was held on Thursday, May 21 at 2 pm at the wooden church at the Bródnowski Cemetery.
